The situation in Letlhabile and Jericho is receiving attention
The unsettled situation in the areas of Letlhabile and Jericho around Brits has been a source of concern for government. The department of Water and Sanitation is working with the North West province as well as the local municipality to not only diffuse tensions but to also deliver crucial services to the community.
This led to the MECs of Local Government and Human Settlement Mr Coleen Maine, and Community Safety and Transport Management, Mr Gaoage Molapisi, forming part of the government entourage that engaged with the community on Thursday, 19 March. There will be a follow up meeting with the communities on Sunday, 22 March, which day sees the culmination of the 2015 National Water Week and the commemoration of World Water Day.
At the moment water is available in parts of Letlhabile. It is necessary for the officials to access and start the water pumps that will feed water to the elevated tanks that give access to zones G and H.
The optimisation of the Brits Water Treatment Plant is already showing benefits. This optimisation started on Monday.
The work to restore services includes work done by Magalies Water as there is need to enhance the capacity of the local municipality.
The MECs indicated their intention to visit the Brits Water Treatment Works and the Hartbeespoort Dam in the near future to look at what progress is being made regarding their operation.
