Water and Sanitation on water reticulation at OR Tambo District Municipality

The matter of access to water in the OR Tambo District Municipality, particularly in the areas of Qaukeni and Ingquza Hill Local Municipality is receiving attention currently.

Two of the schemes servicing Fama and Mvimvane villages are working and water is flowing. The scheme that services Phumlo Village experienced difficulties due to a breakdown. Mechanical and electrical technicians are currently working on restoring it. It is expected that water will start flowing from the scheme from 21 August.

The department is investigating the possibility of the erection of the Zalu Dam which can be a solution for the OR Tambo DM needs. In the meantime the OR Tambo DM is undertaking a feasibility study for the reticulation of this long term solution.
