Water and Sanitation urges communities to report illegal discharge in water resources

Communities urged to report transgressors

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), Free State Region would like to urge all community members to report illegal discharge in water resources.

DWS has noted with regret the illegal discharge of untreated affluent in some of our rivers and streams. Some industries go as far as discharging dangerous chemicals and untreated animal blood and consumable parts of slaughtered animals that decompose in rivers.

Communities are urged to report any suspected illegal discharge they come across in rivers and streams as this directly affect the water that is consumed by them.

Transgressors and spillages can be reported to DWS Walk-in Centre which is located at Bloem Plaza, C/o East Burger & Charlotte Maxeke Streets, at the Department of Water and Sanitation offices on the 2nd Floor and the operating hours are during the week from 8am to 4pm.

The public can also make use of the departmental hotline number which forms part of the Walk-in Centre and operates with the toll-free number 0800 200 200. An email can also be send to info@dws.gov.za, sms to 45174 or fax to 021 336 8664.
