DWS continues to urge the public to be water-wise despite the stable IVRS
The water levels of the integrated Vaal River System (IVRS) have increased this week, leaving it in a favorable condition.
The Integrated Vaal River System has risen from last week’s 90.8% to 91.0% this week. It was at 100.7% last year at this time.
The water level at Vaal Dam increased from 71.0% to 71.1% this week. In this period last year, the dam was at 99.7% capacity.
The water level at Grootdraai Dam increased from 94.2% to 95.1% this week and was higher at 103.6% compared to last year.
Sterkfontein Dam's water level in the Free State rose from 100.3% last week to 100.4% this week, maintaining its level above 100% for several weeks now. The dam recorded a level of 101.1% last year.
Bloemhof Dam's water level has slightly declined from 94.7% to 93.8%. The level was higher at 102.6%.last year.
The Katse Dam and Mohale Dam in Lesotho have been holding steady above the 90% mark despite the Katse Dam slightly declining this week.
Katse Dam's water level decreased by 0.1% from 99.6% to 99.5%. In comparison, , Katse was higher at 100.1% at this time last year.
Data shows Mogale Dam has risen from last week’s 97.0% to 97.4% this week. During the same week last year, the dam recorded a higher 102.4% level.
Additionally, despite the IVRS being stable this week, the Department continues to urge water users to conserve water. Some practical tips for water conservation include fixing any leaks promptly, using water-efficient appliances, taking shorter showers, collecting rainwater for irrigation, and turning off the tap while brushing teeth or washing dishes. These small actions can make a big difference in conserving water and ensuring a sustainable supply of water.
