Water and Sanitation on Limpopo dam levels

Limpopo dam levels have slightly subsided

A weekly report on dam levels issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation in Limpopo has shown a slight drop of the province’s dam levels from last week’s 84.4% to 83.7% this week. During a similar period last year, the province’s overall storage capacity stood at 78.5%, which is an improvement this year.

This slight decrease means that the available water in the province as of this week is at 1238.8 cubic metres out of a full capacity of 1480.1 cubic metres.

The Polokwane Water Supply System with dams supplying water to Polokwane and surrounding areas is currently at 100.1%, a slight decrease from last week’s 95.6%. This is, however, a great improvement compared to last year at this time when the system stood at 81.0%.

Several Dams remained the same. These includes, Tonteldoos Dam at 100.3% this week and last week. Ebenezer Dam was at 96.4% last week and this week. Middel-Letaba Dam also remained unchanged, it was 0.7% last week and this week. Warmbad Dam also experienced no movement, with 101.6% last week and this week.

Mokolo Dam dropped from 100.1% last week to 99.3 % this week. Doorndraai Dam also took a dip, it was 96.9% last week and this week it is standing at 96.2%. Klaserie Dam substantially dropped from 88.0% last week to 83.3% this week. Tzaneen Dam also dropped from  85.6% last week to 83.8% this week.

Despite the slight overall decline, Mutshedzi Dam improved from last week’s 100.7% to this week’s 100.8%. Vlugkraal Dam also slightly improved, from last week’s 91.2% to this week’s 91.7%.
