Limpopo dam levels have marginally declined this week

A weekly report on dam levels issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation in Limpopo has shown a minimal decline of the province’s dam levels from last week’s 88.8% to 88.6% this week. During a similar period last year, the province’s overall storage capacity stood at 86.4%.

This minimal decline means that the available water in the province as of this week is at 1310.9 cubic metres out of a full capacity of 1480.1 cubic metres.

The Polokwane Water Supply System with dams supplying water to Polokwane and surrounding areas is currently at 102.0%, a minimal drop from last week’s 102.5%. This is, however, a great improvement compared to last year at this time when the system stood at 94.5%.

Despite the overall decrease, several dams have slightly increased. Hans Merensky Dam from 101.9% last week to 102.3% this week. Modjadji Dam has also increased from 58.3% last week, to 58.8% this week.

Warmbad and Albasini Dams remained the same at 104.8% and 99.9% respectively. 

Glen Alpine Dam has dropped from 101.0% last week to 100.5%. Houtrivier Dam also took a dip, it was 94.5% last week and this week it is at 93.7%. Vondo Dam slightly dropped from 101.0% last week to 100.7%. Rust De Winter Dam was 101.6% last week, and this week it is standing at 101.2%.

The Department of Water and Sanitation has reiterated its call to residents to continue using water sparingly. The communities are also encouraged to report any water leaks and water infrastructure vandalism to local municipalities.
