Water and Sanitation on Gauteng dam levels

Gauteng dams levels firm at just above 100% mark

The Gauteng provincial water storage is floating at just above the 100% mark this week; however the Department of Water and Sanitation would like to appeal to all water users to be conservative in a manner in which they consume water.

Currently, the Apies Dam is hovering at 107.2%, slightly down from last week’s 107.8%. During the same period last year, the dam stood at a remarkable 111.9%.

The Reitvlei Dam marginally surged up to 100.0% this week, having stood at 99.7% last week. Compared to the same period last year when the dam was at 100.6%, the current levels of the dam are slightly down.

Similarly recording a minor increase this week, the Roodeplaat Dam shot up from 100.3% last week to 100.5% this week. At the same time last year the dam hovered at equally satisfactory levels at 99.5%.

Despite a minor decline this week, the Bronkhorstspruit Dam remains above the 100% mark. This week the dam stands at 100.9% following a decline from last week’s 101.1%. The current levels of the dam are up compared to last year at the same time when it stood at 89.0%

The levels of the Klipdrift saw a significant increase from 101.8% last week to 123.5% this week, and up from the recorded levels of 78.2% during the comparative period last year.

The Department of Water and Sanitation urges to water consumers to not only be cautious but take proactive action by using water sparingly. The department is of the view that working together with communities, Gauteng could avoid the rapid decline of dam levels.
