DWS encourages communities to report water leaks and vandalism of water infrastructure

The Eastern Cape water levels have shown a sing of slight improvement due to the recent showers that soaked some parts of the province.

The combined average of the province's water storage is at 73.5% this week compared to 71.5% last week.

Amathole Water Supply System with major dams serving large communities of Buffalo City Metro and Amathole District Municipality has increased to 92.1 this week compared to 84.2% last week. Few dams such as Nahoon Dam is sitting at 100%, Bridle Drift also full at 100% and Xilinxa Dam also improved to 100%. The long-term intervention plans to assist the communities of Butterworth are still in progress, with the Ngqamakhwe- Tsomo pipeline project well underway.

Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (NMBM) dams have improved, amid slightly, from the previous rainfalls and the Algoa Water Supply System has improved from 19.1% last week to 19.6% this week. Kouga Dam that serves major areas of NMBM has improved from 21.8% last week to 22.5% this week, Loerie Dam rose from 70.6% last week to 73.3% this week and Impofu Dam is sitting below 10%. Some of the short- term intervention to ease the situation in NMBM are in progress.

Klipplaat Water Supply System with major dams servicing Chris Hani District is sitting well at 100%. Macubeni Dam full at 100%, Tsojana Dam remain full at 100% and Waterdown Dam at 102%

The DWS appealing to all water users to continue using water sparingly and report water leaks to nearest offices of water service authorities and report any vandalism of water infrastructure taking place in their respective areas.
