Water and Sanitation on dam levels in North West

Dam levels in North West improving slightly

Dam levels in North West’s Bokone Bophirima System have improved slightly following recent rains in some parts of the province.

Despite the current situation, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) still encourages water users to avoid wasting this precious resource and to adhere to water restrictions imposed by their respective municipalities.

The Bokone Bophirima System was at 58.9% last year during this time. The system was measured at 79.8 last week but declined slightly to 79.3% this week.

Boskop Dam currently stands at 99.8% this week compared to last week’s 100.5%, which is a decrease from last week.

Pitskop is at 85.7% this week compared to last week’s 84.1%, which is an increase from last week. Taung Dam is at 95.0%, the same as last week.

Pella Dam increased from 68.1% last week to 74.8% this week; and Vaalkop Dam 67.8% this week compared to 68.3% last week.

Molatedi Dam currently stands at 50.7 %, which is the same level as last week’s - 50.7%.

Hartebeespoort Dam is currently sitting at 95.8%, a slight increase from last week’s 96.3 %. .

In relation to provincial storage, the situation is still of great concern. The province needs to intensify water restrictions where applicable to prevent a spike in usage during spring.

The drought phenomenon is still with us and we encourage everyone to play a role in ensuring that no drop of water is wasted.
