Gauteng dams remain healthy despite decline this week

The levels of Gauteng dams remain in a strong and healthy state this week despite a slight decline from last week’s levels.

Collectively, the dams are hovering at 90.1% this week, slightly down from 90.4% last week. Last year in the same week, the overall dams stood just shy of the 100% mark at 99.2%.

Except from the Bon Accord Dam, which is unchanged from last week’s 101.8%, other dams in Gauteng have recorded a slight drop in their levels. During the same week last year, the Bon Accord Dam was at 103.6%.

Sloping down this week, the Rietvlei Dam is presently floating at 86.0%, having declined from 86.1% last week. Compared to last year at the same period when the dam was at 93.4%, this week’s levels of the dam are lower.

Similarly, recording a drop this week, the Bronkhorstspruit Dam saw an insignificant decline when it fell from 83.5% last week to 83.0% this week. Comfortably floating at 99.4% last year in the same week, the dam has been able to remain stable over the past months.

The Department of Water and Sanitation in Gauteng expressed satisfaction at the manner the province’s water consumers have played a role to conserve water. The department is of the view that water consumers are central to efforts aimed at saving water and calls on them to heighten their efforts to save even more.
