The Mpumalanga University, Department of Water and Sanitation and the Inkomati Usuthu Catchment Management Agency today signed an agreement towards the sustainable management of water resources in the Inkomati Usuthu Catchment.
The agreement was signed amid scorching heat across the country that underscores the importance of managing water in climate change conditions. The agreement is one of the outputs from Chapter 15 of the National Water and Sanitation Resources Strategy 2.
The development of undergraduate learning modules is part of the agreement and will focus on water resources management, the dynamics of ecosystems and their sustainable use and protection.
Post- graduate study modules will look at resource dynamics and policies for the transboundary management of water resources across Africa, water quality stressors, flow alterations, the impact of new threats such as climate change in addition to alien invasive vegetation and more. Skills and capacity will be built for the sector, as a result of this agreement.
The agreement was signed at the Mpumalanga University's Mbombela campus by Dr Thomas Gyedu-Ababio from the Inkomati Usuthu Catchment Management, Mr Anil Sign from the Department of Water and Sanitation as well as the Vice Chancellor of the Mpumalanga University, Prof Thoko Mayekido
