Bursaries and Cash Prizes Awarded to N Cape Learners
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has awarded bursaries and cash prizes to learners from the Northern Cape who participated in the Water and Sanitation Education Programme (WSEP).
A total of 7 bursaries and a cash prize of R39 000 was awarded by the Department of Water and Sanitation to learners from the Northern Cape who battled it out at a weeklong competition with learners from the 9 provinces of South Africa.
DWS awarded 1st Prize in the Baswa Le Meetse Music Category competition to Colston Intermediate School from Colston, Kuruman in the Joe Morolong Local Municipality, John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality. They also received a cash prize of R20 000.
3rd Prize was awarded to Isagontle Primary School from Kuruman for winning the Praise Poetry category in the Baswa Le Meetse competition. The learners also receiving a cash prize of R10 000.
In the South African Youth Water Prize competition, two learners, Khumo Mawela and Mekayle Strauss, from Kimberley Technical High School attained position two nationally, and won comprehensive education bursaries covering registration at university, tuition, accommodation, food, books, and a stipend. They also received a cash prize of R9 000.
Lethabo Sehere also from Kimberley Technical High won a comprehensive bursary for participating in the Aqua Enduro competition.
From Baitiredi Technical and Commercial High School, Mr Tshepang Gaobusiwe won a comprehensive bursary from the Aqua Enduro competition.
In the Public Speaking competition, 3 learners, Boinelo Olifant, Kerapetse Letebele, and Gontse Baanyang, from Dibotswa High School in the Joe Morolong Local Municipality will also receive 3 comprehensive bursaries.
The Water and Sanitation Education Programme is aimed at addressing skills shortages in the scientific and engineering fields by targeting and encouraging Grade 10-11 learners to study mathematics and science, and to pursue careers in the water and sanitation sector.
