Warrant Officer arrested for corruption

A week ago, a prominent Mpumalanga businessman approached the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI ) in Pretoria. He complained that one of our  members in Mpumalanga, was threatening to arrest her, alleging that she owed R17 million in unpaid taxes. Upon investigation, our members established that it wasn't true that the businesswoman owed such an amount to the South African Revenue Services.

A meeting was arranged between the DPCI warrant officer and the complainant. During the meeting on Tuesday, the warrant officer took a R5 000 payment from the complainant. The warrant officer was arrested shortly afterwards.

Derrick Mogale appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate Court on a charge of corruption shortly after he was arrested. He was given bail of R2 000. The case has been postponed to the 24 November 2011 for further investigation.

This arrest is yet another example that the SAPS is tough on corruption within its ranks.
