The implementation of the local government ward service delivery improvement strategy will be a priority during the 2012/2013 financial year. This announcement was made by the North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Paul Sebegoe at the department’s strategic review session held recently at Mmabatho Hotel School.
MEC Sebegoe said the strategy will go a long way in reducing the number of service delivery protest marches that the province has been experiencing. “We have learnt that some of the protest marches were as a result of specific service delivery issues and we therefore need to re-direct our efforts and energies towards the implementation of the local government service ward based service delivery strategy,’ he said. He said it was important that the department learnt from its previous challenges in order to remain relevant to its clients.
The local government ward based service delivery improvement is intended to improve municipal operations, service delivery, community involvement and feedback in local government.
MEC Sebegoe appealed to managers in the department to work towards achieving a common goal of building a better local government and institutions of traditional leaders. “We all have different roles to play in the department and it is therefore important that we appreciate the different tasks assigned to us. Managers must start providing the much needed leadership in their respective area of responsibility. They must be able to create a conducive environment for their sub-ordinates”, he mentioned.
