Traditional communities in the North West have until Sunday, 19 May 2013 to register as eligible voters in the upcoming elections of 56 traditional councils which will be held on 6 July this year.
This announcement was made by the Acting North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Paul Sebegoe yesterday when he tabled the 2013/14 Budget Speech.
MEC Sebegoe said preparations are underway to educate traditional communities about the voter registration which will start tomorrow until Sunday, 18-19 May 2013. “To this end a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on the 29th April 2013, and at the same occasion the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the North West House of Traditional Leaders, Kgosi Madoda Zibi and Kgosi Moshe Mabe as well as all other Dikgosi signed a pledge in support of the envisaged traditional council elections. We can confidently confirm that we are working very hard to ensure that we maximize community participation in the upcoming elections especially on the 40% component, ka go nne Kgosi ke Kgosi ka morafe,” he said.
Meanwhile, voters will need a green bar-coded Identity document (ID), be 18 years old, in order to register to vote.
