A Ventersdorp farmer arrested for assaulting three North West women traffic officers was released on R3 000 bail this morning and he is expected to make his second appearance on 11 September 2012 at the Ventersdorp Magistrate Court in the North West province.
The 52-year-old Karen Petrus Coetzer is facing three charges of assault to cause grievously bodily harm and failure to furnish information to traffic officers on duty. The suspect was released on conditions such as to report to the nearest police station on two occasions in a week and further not to intimidate the concerned victims directly or indirectly.
Coetzer was arrested by the traffic and police officers on the R-30 between Derby and Ventersdorp after he allegedly assaulted three women traffic officers. It is reported that the suspect refused to cooperate after traffic officers discovered that his vehicles disk has since expired in 2007.
The three assaulted women traffic officers have since been discharged from the Ventersdorp Hospital, while one of them still suffers from internal injuries. North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Nono Maloyi harshly condemned the actions and further requested motorists to cooperate to traffic authorities.
"There's no one above the law, everybody must obey the law cooperate to the authorities. Our traffic authorities are there to ensure compliance on our roads and we all have to cooperate and do what is requested," concluded Maloyi.
