Urgent media appeal, missing learner

It is with great concern that I have just been informed that Lumka Lengisi, a 17 year old learner from Noluthando School for the Deaf, has been declared missing.

Lumka was last seen in a school bus (Lansdowne Road - Khayelitsha - ext Greenpoint) yesterday morning and has since disappeared. Searches by the police, community and educators to find Lumka have been unsuccessful.

I urge all media to help assist South African Police Service (SAPS) in their search by appealing to communities for information.

Lumka is a 17 year old black female learner. She is deaf and mute. She was last wearing a navy skirt, a white blouse, and a navy long-sleeved jersey. (There is no school emblem on the jersey). She has shoulder-length hair and is 1.5 metre tall.

For further enquiries or information on her whereabouts please contact:

The Western Cape Education Department is committed to doing all we can to bring Lumka safely home and we appeal to the whole province to assist us in this urgent appeal.
