A sod turning and project site handover for construction of R56 million housing project was launched by the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison in partnership with Tswaing Local Municipality. The project to construct 1 000 housing units was unveiled in Agisanang informal settlement outside Sannieshof on Monday.
MEC for the provincial department, Desbo Mohono says that in an effort to accelerate housing delivery and eradication of informal settlements, Over R656 million is to be spent by her department on delivery of 11 000 housing units and serving of 2851 sites in 69 informal settlements as part of the informal settlement upgrading in this financial year alone.
Mohono’s department is in the process of reviewing and updating the provincial multi-year housing development plan for upgrading of 28 840 housing units as part of its informal upgrading programme.
Ten municipalities are to be provided with technical and financial assistance to review their housing plans. Additional inspectors have been appointed to ensure quality work.
