UIF leverages on technology to improve service delivery

The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), an entity of the Department of Labour (DoL), is supporting efforts to create a paperless society through the introduction of U-filing.

Speaking to employers during a road show in Limpopo (Polokwane) on Wednesday, Albert Tshidavhu Head of Department for Labour said U-filing introduces a system where paper will no longer be used to claim for UIF benefits.

"Technology is driving society towards a paperless administration system and the department is also assisting such efforts with the introduction of U-filing,” Tshidavhu said.

U-filing is an electronic system that allows employers to register, pay and make their UIF declarations online.

"We want you to focus on your core business which is to make profits and that is why we introduced the system to save you costs and the cumbersome administration process so that you can just click a button to comply with UIF processes,” he said.

He added that the system is efficient, effective and will also save employers time.

The U-filing road shows have been undertaken to increase the uptake and usage of the system by employers. The primary objective is to enhance service delivery to UIF beneficiaries. The road shows will also be undertaken in other provinces during the course of this year.

In the same gathering employers were informed and educated on the virtual office concept. Virtual office relates to the enhancement of the U-filing system which in future will allow UIF beneficiaries to make electronic applications for benefits.

The concept is currently on a pilot phase and only accredited employers are allowed to use the system. It is envisaged that the system will remarkably improve service delivery to UIF beneficiaries.
