Two killed as car capsized at Riekerts Dam Bridge outside Zeerust

Two people were killed and three others sustained serious injuries in a horrible accident at Riekerts Dam Bridge, approximately 10 kilometres outside Zeerust.

The accident occurred at around 10 o’clock on the Zeerust to Swartruggens toll road in the North West province on Sunday night. The driver of a Toyota Conquest, which was from Mafikeng to Swartruggens, apparently lost control of the vehicle on a curve. The vehicle hit through the barriers and landed on its roof on the railway line below.

Two female passengers died at the scene while the driver and two other male passengers who were seriously injured were taken by paramedics to Zeerust provincial hospital.

Meanwhile, North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa has conveyed condolences to the families of those killed in the accident believed to be from Lomanyaneng in Mafikeng and wished the injured a speedy recovery. Yawa appeals to motorists to observe speed limits and rest whenever they are travelling long distances to avoid fatigue.
