Two family members die in N4 head on collision outside Brits

Two members of a family died in a head on collision accident  involving a car and a
truck tanker on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway outside Brits in the North West
province on Monday night. It is alleged that a Fiat Palio sedan with three family members collided with a truck tanker near Bapong weighbridge around midnight.

The 32 year old driver of the sedan and a child estimated to be between 1 and 2 years were killed on impact while the mother in her late 20s was rushed to Brits Provincial Hospital with serious injuries. It is suspected that fatigue caused the accident as the sedan which was driving from Pretoria towards Rustenburg had veered onto the right lane of the truck tanker on a straight route.

The  68 year old driver of the truck tanker who was driving alone from Rustenburg  towards Pretoria was not injured. Paramedics had to use the jaws of life to free the bodies from the wreckage. One lane was partially closed  for over three hours as accident scene experts and fire and emergency personnel from Madibeng Local Municipality cleared the gruesome accident  scene.

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Desbo Mohono
wishes to express her condolences to the families of those killed in the accident and  wish the injured passenger a speedy recovery. MEC Mohono is concerned about the upsurge in head on collisions in the province caused mostly by speeding and fatigue and calls on motorists to drive with caution and for travellers to avoid fatigue by stopping for a rest every 200 kilometers.
