Two people died and three sustained serious injuries when a Toyota Hilux van heading towards Northam Platinum mines overturned yesterday night on route R510 between Mononono and Manamakgoteng on the border of North West and Limpopo provinces.
Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide after the driver and a passenger died at the scene. Three passengers who were in the vehicle were admitted to Tumela mine hospital with serious injuries. It is alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle as a result of severe fatigue.
North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa has expressed his sincere condolences to the bereaved family and wish the injured a speedy recovery. Yawa has urged motorists to have ample rest to avoid accident caused by fatigue during the festive period.
