A head-on collision involving a truck and a car on the N12 outside Wolmaransstad in the North West province claimed the lives of two people on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred near the weighbridge about five kilometres outside Wolmaransstad at around 4:00 am. It is alleged that the VW Polo which was driving from Klerksdorp towards Wolmaransstad veered into the lane of an oncoming truck that was driving in the opposite direction.
The male driver of the VW Polo, who is in his 20s, died on impact while his passenger, also a male, died soon after his admission at the Nick Bodenstein Provincial Hospital. The driver of the truck was not injured in the accident that is suspected to have been caused by fatigue.
Acting MEC for the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Dr Magome Masike wishes to convey his condolences to the families of the road users who lost their loved ones in the accident.
MEC Masike appeals to motorists to stop and rest every 200 kilometres or whenever they feel tired.
