Two die and three injured in R24 head-on collision in the North West

Two people, a driver and a passenger, died in a head-on collision that was allegedly caused by speeding on the R24 Rustenburg to Magalies road outside Rustenburg on Saturday evening.

It is alleged that a City Golf that was driving towards Magalies drove into the back of a Corsa bakkie at around 17h20. The Corsa bakkie was part of a stationary convoy that was waiting for another vehicle to turn left at a blind rise near Aasvoƫlkrans Resort, about 24 kilometres outside Rustenburg.

The bakkie was forced off the road into the nearby bush. The Golf that had only the driver as an occupant then veered into the right lane and collided head-on with a Toyota Venture. Both the driver and the passenger who were reportedly from Potchefstroom to cater for the Indian cricket team from Mogwase, died at the scene of the accident. The catering equipment that was in the vehicle also contributed to their serious injuries.

The driver of the Golf was rushed by paramedics to Fern Crest hospital with serious injuries. Both the driver and passenger from the bakkie were also admitted to hospital for observation after sustaining minor injuries.

The North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa wishes to convey his condolence to the families of the two males who died in the accident, to the Mogwase-based Indian cricket team and wishes the injured road users who are in hospital a speedy recovery
