Two drivers died and two passengers were seriously injured in a head on collision
involving a bakkie with a trailer and a sedan on the R511 Brits-Pretoria road outside
Brits in the North West province on Wednesday afternoon.
It is alleged the 51 year old male driver of a Ford Ranger bakkie that was pulling a
trailer lost control of his vehicle near Silkaatsnek due to overloading. The bakkie which was driving from Pretoria towards Brits veered onto the lane of an oncoming VW Golf vehicle and collided with it head on at around 4:30 pm. The VW Golf vehicle which was driving in the opposite direction was driven by a 48 years old female nurse. Both drivers died on impact.
Fire and Emergency Services from Madibeng Local Municipality had to use the jaws
of life to free their bodies from the wreckage. Two male passengers from the bakkie in their late 30’s sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to Brits Provincial Hospital by paramedics.
Acting MEC for the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and
Liaison, Dr. Magome Masike wishes to conveying his condolences to the families who
lost their loved ones in the accident and also wish the injured passengers a speedy
recovery. MEC Masike appeals to motorists to avoid speeding and overloading as they results in unnecessary loss of lives.
