Two bikers die in head collisions outside Rustenburg in North West

Two bikers died after being involved in two separate head on collisions involving sedan motor vehicles on Saturday night outside Rustenburg in the North West Province.

A 32 year old biker was riding from Kroondal when he collided with a Peugeot sedan that was heading towards Rustenburg after overtaking another vehicle on the R104 Old Pretoria-Rustenbur groad at around 8:30pm. The collision allegedly occurred near Stop and Stay Lodge. The biker was rushed to Job Shimakane Tabane Provincial Hospital with critical injuries while the female driver of the Peugeot was not injured.

In another accident that occurred at the Shell Garage intersection robots on the outskirts of Rustenburg along the R24 Rustenburg-Magalies road, an Audi sedan with three occupants that was from the Rustenburg mall direction turned right into the lane of a motorcycle that was proceeding towards Rustenburg Mall.

The impact of the collision flung the 37 year old biker over the vehicle before he landed on the tarred road. He was also rushed to Life Peglerae Private Hospital in Rustenburg with critical injuries.

In conveying condolences to the families of the two bikers who reportedly died in the respective hospitals on Sunday morning, North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono confirmed that police are investigating cases of culpable homicide, suspected drunken driving, reckless and or negligent.

MEC Mohono is particularly concerned about reported alcohol said to have been found in both vehicles as most accidents that occur around Rustenburg towards month-ends are alcohol related.
