Twenty-one injured in bus-taxi crash in North West

Twenty-one people were injured in an accident involving a bus and a taxi outside Madidi village near Klipgat in the North West province on Monday evening.

The accident occurred near Madidi taxi rank on the outskirts of the village at around 07h00. It is alleged that an Iveco taxi that was driving out of the village hit a bus with workers returning from work on board on its rear whilst purportedly avoiding a pothole forcing the bus driver to lose control and the vehicle to tip over on its left hand side.

One passenger was critically injured while 19 others sustained injuries that ranged from serious to minor. All of the injured passengers were in the bus as the driver of the taxi was alone at the time of the crash.

Rescue teams had to use the jaws of life to free the taxi driver from the wreckage of his taxi as he was trapped in the vehicle. He also sustained minor injuries.

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Desbo Mohono in confirming that police are investigating a case of reckless and or negligent driving wished the injured road users who were rushed by paramedics to Odi Provincial Hospital a speedy recovery.
