A truck driver was arrested for speeding, drunken driving and bribery on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway outside Brits in the North West Province on Saturday morning.
The 53 year old driver was driving from Rustenburg towards Pretoria when he was pulled over by a traffic officer from the North West Provincial Road Traffic Management Unit for clocking 125 km/h instead of 80km/h .The vigilant officer allegedly smelt alcohol on the driver’ breath as he was issuing him with a R2000 ticket fine.
The no-nonsense officer booked the driver at Brits Police Station for drunken driving after allegedly refusing R500 bribe, added bribery charges and took him to Brits Provincial Hospital for blood sample to be extracted.
In commending the traffic officer for the arrest, North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono vowed that speed enforcement and drunken driving operations across provincial roads will be stepped up ahead of anticipated increased traffic volume for the National Sports Award to be held at Sun City on Sunday evening.
