Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development and Buhle Waste Management have reached an agreement that the company will bear all repair costs of the entrance gate at Sizwe Tropical Diseases Hospital in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni.
This follows an incident on 18 October 2010 where one of Buhle Waste Management trucks damaged the ceiling under the roof of the entrance building. The driver of the truck disregarded security personnel’s instructions and forced entry whereas the height of the truck was higher than the ceiling height. This forceful entry resulted in damage to the ceiling.
Currently, the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID) is assessing the damage and compiling specifications with cost estimates of the repair work.
In the past, delivery trucks damaged stone cladding on the side of the brick gate structure and currently DID workshop bricklayers are fixing damages.
The department disputes media a report suggesting that the damage to the entrance gate of the hospital was caused by constructor’s poor work and reiterates that the damage was caused by the delivery truck and the company has agreed to pay for all repairs.
