The trial of Doctor Tebogo Ephraim Kealetsa (37) operating from Pampierstad Haitswater in the Northern Cape accused of defrauding the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF) will resume on Monday (July 23) with cross-examination of State witness(es).
The trial of Kealetsa was postponed on 22 May 2012 after prosecutor Margaret Thulare fell ill and requested that the trial be postponed. Kealetsa’s trial had earlier been postponed, citing cash flow problems because of non-payments by medical aids. Kealetsa has pleaded not guilty.
Kealetsa, a general medial practitioner is out on a bail of R5000. Kealetsa is alleged to have defrauded the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF) of about R680 000. He faces two counts of fraud.
The Doctor was arrested on 25 August 2010 after making two alleged “illegal” claims against the Department’s Compensation Fund. The Fund processed his claims in good faith only to discover that these were allegedly untoward.
The Compensation Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour whose duty is to cover for compensation of workers injured during work or diseases sustained or contracted.
