Trend to plunge communities in violence without regard for consequence is worrying says MEC Mohono after blockade of N12

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono has appealed to communities to refrain from unlawful action and violent protests but to instead opt for dialogue and constructive engagement around their community development issues. MEC Mohono’s comment follows the blockading of the N12 by Tswelelang residents outside Wolmaranstadt in the North West Province.

“With weekly project steering committee meetings about the R31 million Roads, Storm water and installation of services for 972 sites development projects that Maquassi Hills Local Municipality is implementing in the informal settlement, it was unwarranted that the N12 was blockaded and innocent passersby’s inconvenienced. The trend to plunge communities in violence without a second thought or regard for consequences is worrying” says MEC Mohono.

Desperation relating to employment is suspected to have caused the protest which occurred after a standing project steering committee meeting was postponed due to unavailability of some of the stakeholders.

Meanwhile, MEC Mohono contractor is also expected on site by the end of this week for construction of 118 housing units to commence in Tswelelang Extension 2,3, and 4.The Home enrolment of the over R7,5 million project was finalised on Monday by the National Home Builders Registration Council.

Mohono says that the R16 million Tswelelang housing development project under construction in Tswelelang Proper is expected to be completed in the next three months.
