Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma today Sunday, 25 December 2011 announced that the Department has till Saturday 24 December 2011 facilitated the movement of over 2,4 million incoming and outgoing travellers through its air, land and sea ports.
In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma once more reiterated the department is on course to ensure South Africans and foreign nationals alike enjoy a smooth and expeditious experience through our ports of entry.
To this end Minister Dlamini Zuma has expressed satisfaction with the improving levels of efficiency in immigration services rendered at OR Tambo International Airport since the deployment last week of 350 former SANDF members, trained in immigration. This comes within the context of the Department’s commitment to re-engineer itself as a security Department while balancing its service delivery imperative.
Following challenges at the Lebombo port of entry on Saturday, 24 December 2011, the Department can report that with the normalisation of traveller volumes today Sunday 25 December, immigration services are also on course.
Minister Dlamini Zuma further extended warm Christmas greetings to all travellers going through South Africa’s ports of entry over the holiday period expressing the unreserved confidence in the ability of all South Africans to display our legendary Ubuntu, friendliness and hospitality.
Minister Dlamini Zuma concluded by assuring all travellers of South Africa’s commitment to, working together with other law enforcement agencies within the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCPS), to ensure all citizens are and feel safe.
