The Eastern Cape Department of Transport has started its training of Field Training Officer’s (FTO’s) in the province, this in order for the department to get full accreditation from Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA) as FTO’S.
This accreditation will enable departmental officials to do assessments on students and to mentor new traffic officers.
Having reached an agreement with the Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality Traffic College to assist the department with the Training, the FTO’S reported at the College on Monday 13 June 2011 and were required to have an ID, Driver’s License, Registration Certificate, full uniform, track suit, reflector vest and a short CV.
According to Training coordinator Norman Neethling, the training will take place over a period of 11 days and that more training will be done this year by Road Traffic Management Corporation.
This initiative came after certain areas were identified where provincial traffic officers fell short of completing their college training and is aimed at work-shopping traffic officers around administration aspects of their work.
Traffic officers (625) from different districts are expected to benefit from the project, which seeks to accelerate service delivery in the province.
