Training of field officers completed

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport hosted the training of Field Training Officers (FTOs) in the province this month in order to get full accreditation from Safety and Security, Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA).

This accreditation will enable departmental officials to do assessments on students and to mentor new traffic officers and with this training completed the only thing left for them is to undergo the assessors course.

Having reached an agreement with the Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality Traffic College to assist the department with the training, the FTOs reported at the College on Monday 13 June 2011.

The training took place over a period of 11 days and more will be done this year by Road Traffic Management Corporation.

This initiative came after certain areas were identified where provincial traffic officers fell short of completing their college training and is aimed at work-shopping traffic officers around administration aspects of their work.

A total of 625 traffic officers from different districts are expected to benefit from the project, which seeks to accelerate service delivery in the province.
