Traffic violations causes more deaths

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa said a severe loss of innocent lives of most road users were caused by human error. During the Easter Special Prayer service held at Mmabatho Civic Centre to mark the official launch of Speed to Easter Arrive Alive Campaign on Thursday, Yawa said 90 percent of most death occurred as a result of traffic violations misjudgement of traffic or neglecting traffic rules.

“The number of road deaths on our roads is totally unacceptable. We cannot continue treating road deaths as normal when we are facing death by design, death by human error, death through carelessness, death through drunkenness, all of which can be stopped,” said Yawa, adding that his department, faith based organisations and the communities would, as a collective continue to treat road carnage with the seriousness it deserves.

He said traffic violation is a serious crime and communities and individuals must take responsibility for their behaviour and the behaviour of their families and friends in order to have a successful reduction in deaths. He further said some accidents are caused by parents who allow their kids to drive cars without excising accountability.
