Traffic officer's arrest speedster during tolerance approach

Provincial traffic officers arrested a speeding driver in Beaufort West at 15h00 on Monday when he drove his BMW vehicle at 140 kilometres per hour in a 60 kilometre per hour speed zone.

‘This is reckless and such offences will be dealt with in the harshest sense,” says the Minister of Community Safety, Advocate Lennit Max.

The 42 year old male from Cape Town, appeared in court and was fined R4 000. Max warned that any driver caught speeding will be treated likewise. No money (fine) will and can repay the injuries and damage caused by such indiscretions. Speeding on all the roads of the province will not be tolerated and no mercy will be shown to offenders.

These operations are part of the Integrated Summer Traffic programme and also part of a joint campaign (Safely Home) by the Western Cape Departments of Community Safety and Transport and Public Works.
