The Deputy Minister of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation in the Presidency, Ms Dina Pule MP, today met representatives from the National House of Traditional Leaders in Pretoria.
The meeting was held to introduce the Minister and for her to engage the House on the role of the Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Department in the Presidency.
Ms Pule outlined the approach and processes to be followed in performance monitoring and evaluation. This includes the consultative process and approach by Inter Governmental Relations principles as enshrined in the Constitution.
She emphasised that the House should foster partnership with relevant departments such as Rural Development and Land Reform, adding that more focus should be given on developmental plans that support service delivery.
“Working together with government, the House must ensure that there is governance framework that guides how the institutions of traditional leadership should function within government prescripts.
“Monitoring of such a governance framework will be of paramount importance, which means we must be accountable and transparent at all times. The House must encourage good governance in general in order to improve lives of ordinary people,” she said.
Ms Pule said that to achieve its goals and have the impact on the ground, the House needed to ensure that it provided effective leadership in support of the five key government priorities.
She further emphasised that it is imperative for the House to work with municipalities to ensure that service delivery particularly in rural areas is enhanced.
The House welcomed the initiative to formalise the relationship between them and government as well as strengthening the relationship between them and ward councilors.
The meeting happened at a time when the Department of Traditional Affairs is developing partnership model with the House and various stakeholders to strengthening working relationships.
