Traditional Affairs mourns the death of His Majesty, King Lekunutu Cavandish Mota of the Batlokoa Ba Mota

The Ministry for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs is saddened by the passing on  of the King of Batlokoa Ba Mota residing in Qwaqwa in the Free State. He died on 8 September 2015 in Morningside Medi-Clinic in Johannesburg.

His Majesty, King Mota was recognised as a Paramount Chief of Batlokoa in 1989 by the former government. On 5 November 2010, he was recognised by the President of South Africa as a king of the Batlokoa Ba Mota Kingship. He also served as a Minister in the former Qwaqwa government. In addition, he was also a member of both the Free State Provincial and the National Houses of Traditional Leaders.

The Ministry for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the Free State Provincial government as well as the National House of Traditional Leaders have lost a pioneer in the transformation of the Institution of traditional leaders, especially on issues of culture, custom and tradition.

The Ministry sends deepest condolences to the Royal family of King Mota and the Kinship of Batlokoa Ba Mota.
