The Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry has learnt with shock of the medical condition of one of its members, Dr Mario Oriani-Ambrosini.
Yesterday, Dr Oriani-Ambrosini informed the Committee Chairperson, Ms Joanmariae Fubbs, of his critical medical condition for which he is pursuing treatment. “The Committee would like to wish him well. We know that he will exhaust all avenues to find a cure,” said Ms Fubbs.
While the Committee had been aware of Dr Oriani-Ambrosini’s recent hospitalisation, it had no idea that his condition was life-threatening. “Dr Oriani-Ambrosini is a valuable member of the Committee whose fresh insight has contributed to more robust legislation. His capacity to focus on issues differently encourages the Committee to conduct effective oversight,” said Ms Fubbs.
She added that as a Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Oriani-Ambrosini was instrumental in changing the process which has led to interim rules on the issues of MPs being able to introduce legislation more speedily through a Private Members Bill.
