The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe arrived in Mozambique where she is leading a delegation of South African businesspeople for the 49th Feira International De Maputo (Facim) which will take place in Maputo from tomorrow to the 1st September 2013.
The objective of the South African National Pavilion at Facim is to promote and showcase South African potential in general, with more focus on the participating companies. It is also to attract potential buyers, distributors and agents, and to raise awareness amongst the South African industries about the trade opportunities available globally.
Thabethe says Facim will give an opportunity for South African companies to showcase and market their products and services.
“The exhibitions will also expose our companies to export opportunities and will provide a platform to promote South African products to potential new customers and penetrate new markets,” said Thabethe.
Thabethe’s programme will include a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce in Mozambique Mr Kenneth Marizane, and a meeting with the management of Institute of Export Promotion IPEX in Mozambique. Tomorrow she will attend the official opening of Facim and on Tuesday she will officially open the South African National Pavilion at the same venue.
Mozambique still forms part of the top five South Africa’s trade partners in the region. Trade between the two countries is still positively in favour of South Africa. In 2012 exports from South Africa to Mozambique stood at R18, 901 billion and South Africa’s imports from Mozambique stood at R10, 401 billion.
