The Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry has learnt with great sadness of the passing of Committee Member, Dr Mario Oriani-Ambrosini.
Committee Chairperson, Ms Joanmariae Fubbs, said the Committee valued his contribution when he was still able to attend Committee meetings regularly during the previous Parliament.
“His fresh insight has contributed to more robust legislation. His capacity to focus on issues differently encouraged the Committee to conduct effective oversight,” said Ms Fubbs.
She added that as a Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Oriani-Ambrosini was instrumental in changing the process which has led to MPs being able to introduce legislation more speedily through a Private Members Bill.
He recently made a passionate plea with goverment and Parliament for the use of “medical marijuana” to be legalised, a process which is still under review.
The Committee expresses its condolences with the family of Dr Oriani-Ambrosini. “You are in our thoughts during this difficult time,” said Ms Fubbs.
Dr Oriani-Ambrosini died earlier today after a valiant battle with cancer.
