A total of six suspects now behind bars for Morula Sun robbery

National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Bheki Cele, has once again congratulated SAPS members for their dedication at tracking down members of a gang that robbed Morula Sun and shot their way out of the casino over a week ago. Police action and planning is always a step ahead of criminals. Our crime intelligence capacity has improved tremendously in cracking serious syndicates hence we remain confident that criminals are feeling the heat and we will stop at nothing to squeeze the space to zero.

Embarking on an early intensive and rigorous festive season deployment and operations, is yielding desired results so far. We are proud of the dedication shown by the police in protecting and serving fellow South Africans.

Two more suspects have been arrested, bringing to six the number of gang members that are now behind bars. The latest suspects were arrested in Tembisa and Kalfontein. One of them was found with almost six thousand rand in cash. The latest arrests follow just 24 hours after the arrest of another two suspects. The first two were arrested on Sunday.

They include a cashier, who is believed to have assisted the suspects during the dramatic robbery and shootout.

The robbers armed with AK47s allegedly fired several shots inside the casino's entertainment area before stealing cash. They also shot at security guards and took a gun from one of them and fled with several million rand. General Cele says he is pleased with the swift action by the police.
