A toddler died and 14 other road users were injured after a taxi overturned on the N14 Lichtenburg-Coligny road in the North West province on Sunday afternoon.
It is alleged that the CMC Amandla taxi with 15 occupants veered to the left of the road and overturned due to a tyre burst at around 2:30 pm. The taxi from Lichtenburg was destined for Johannesburg.
The female toddler died at the scene while 3 women in their 40’s were seriously injured. Other passengers including the driver of the taxi sustained minor injuries. The injured passengers were rushed by paramedics to Ventersdorp Provincial Hospital and General De La Rey Hospital in Lichtenburg.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide,negligent and or reckless driving.
North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono wishes to convey her condolences to the family of the toddler whose father was also injured in the accident. MEC Mohono also wishes the injured road users a speedy recovery.
