Tlokweng drifts towards normality after violent protests

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Desbo Mohono welcomed reports that barricades were removed and acts of intimidation in Tlokweng village had subsided to the extended that learners and workers were able to go to school and work on Wednesday.

MEC Mohono said that this was an indication that protestors had headed the call for truce made by the leadership collective that was led by Premier Thandi Modise during her intervention meeting with the community on Tuesday.

Mohono is hopeful that though the situation in the village remains tense, it will improve over time to allow families that have lost their loved in the recent protests space to mourn for their loved ones in dignity.

The MEC appealed to the community to guard against criminal element that seeks to hijack the protest against ritual murders to advance their nefarious agenda, this is after reports of looting of local businesses were received.

She called upon the community not to provoke police through acts of violence and criminality and stressed that police have a duty to protect lives and properties and that law abiding citizens have a civic duty to support them by reporting those who are involved in acts of criminality.

Investigations into the deaths are continuing so that answers are provided to allow the bereaved families to find closure.
