Tlhape hands over tribal offices to Barokologadi Baga Maotwe

The traditional community of Barokologadi Baga Maotwe in Pitsidisulejang village within the Madikwe region recently saw their way of life change for the better when the North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs Manketsi Tlhape officially handed over a state of the art tribal offices to Kgosi Ofentse Thari Maotwe II.

Section 6 of the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act 41 of 2003 provides that the national and provincial government may put in place necessary measures to support and strengthen the capacity of the traditional councils to enable them to fulfill their functions conferred on them by the ACT.

MEC Tlhape appealed to the community of Pitisidisulejang to safeguard the new six (6) offices, a boardroom and a community hall building which is a huge improvement as compared to the old dilapidated office that only had three (3) rooms. “This is your asset, look after it at all times and report any criminal activity on them. Let us look after these offices as they are our children’s inheritance. Kgosi Maotwe, your leadership will be needed in making sure that these offices benefit the community and are purely used for their intended purposes” she said.

MEC Tlhape went on to say that provincial government’s biggest concern is the level at which traditional leaders are involved in matters of development in their areas. “This is one thing that we will not stop talking about at all available opportunity. We want to have a situation where our traditional leaders are involved in developmental projects in their respective communities, at planning stages,” she said.

The Deputy Chairperson of the provincial House of Traditional Leaders, Kgosi Mabe said that he believed that these offices should be a hub where the community will access services.

“We are not only looking at this as a delivery of offices, we are also looking at this as an empowerment of everybody who is working with Dikgosi to enhance service delivery and advance government’s programme of action in the village. As the provincial house of traditional leaders we would like to congratulate Kgosi Thari Maotwe II on his new offices and hope that he and his community will be able to utilize them for what they are meant for,” he said.

Kgosi Ofentse Thari Maotwe II expressed his greatest gratitude and thanked government this significant delivery to his village. “It is with great pleasure that we accept these offices as they will lift a huge load off our shoulders. My community will now be able to conduct their activities at ease without being restricted. We will now be able to service our people and have other government service points relevant to our community operate from here as and when the need arises,” he said.

This tribal offices were build in partnership between the North West department of Local and Traditional Affairs, Public Works, Roads and Transport and the Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP).
