Tip-off leads to impounding of State Vehicle for misuse

A state vehicle was impounded by North West Road Traffic Management authorities for alleged misuse in the Central Business District of the Provincial capital of the North West Province, Mahikeng on Wednesday afternoon.

The seizure of the Nissan Hardbody double cab bakkie follows an anonymous tip-off on the 0800 204 992 Public Safety Toll Free number that it was being used to stock-up groceries. The vehicle allocated to the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development was found on Shippard street near Bombay Supermarket with the goods allegedly meant for a tuck-shop at around 3h00pm.

Disciplinary proceedings against the 55 year old male driver are expected to be instituted by his department.

In appreciating that a concerned member of the public had reported the alleged abuse, North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono called for the toll free number to be used so that the phenomenon of misuse of vehicles meant to render service delivery is uprooted.

MEC Mohono said that government does very little business at shopping malls, groceries stores and at shebeens and that vehicles found at these venues were in most likelihood being misused.
