Three women traffic officers assaulted by a farmer in Venterdorp

A 52 year old  farmer from Ventersdorp in the North West has been arrested by police allegedly for assaulting three women traffic officers earlier today. The man is alleged to have refused to cooporate with the three women traffic officers who were mending road sign operations as part of Women’s month activities between Ventersdorp and Derby earlier today.

The farmer is now charged with obstructing traffic officer to perform her duties, assault with grievously bodily harm.

The officers allege that the farmer who was traveling on the R-30 from the Derby direction to Ventersdorp refused to cooporate after officers discovered that the farmer’s license disk expired in 2007. When he was requested to step out of the vehicle and produce a licence for purposes of issuing a fine, he assaulted the three officers. According to the Traffic officers the farmer then drove off, even though he was warned to stop. He was cornered and arrested by traffic officials and the police a kilometer away from the scene of the incident.

He is currently detained at the Ventersdorp Police station. Meanwhile the three women traffic officers are now being treated at the Ventersdorp Provincial Hospital. He is expected to appear before the Ventersdorp Magistrate court tomorrow.
