Three people, two of them Botswana nationals, were seriously injured in a side sweep accident on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway that happened between Rustenburg and Swartruggens on Monday.
It is alleged that an Isuzu double cab with Botswana registrations collided with a BMW sedan at about 9h15 about 15 kilometres outside Rustenburg. The driver of the Isuzu that was travelling towards Rustenburg is alleged to have lost control of his vehicle due to rain and collided with the BMW which was driving towards Swartruggens.
ER 24 emergency services personnel who had to use jaws of life to free the driver of the BMW from the wreckage. All three sustained serious injuries and were rushed by ER 24 ambulances to Job Shimankane hospital and a private hospital in Rustenburg.
The Department of Public Safety advices motorists to drive slow and with caution during the wet weather.
