Three die, seven injured in North West road crash

Three women aged 29, 21 and 41 died and seven other road users were injured in a head on road accident that occurred on the Vryburg-Kuruman Road, about 10 kilometres from Lykso in the North West province on Sunday afternoon.

It is alleged that a Toyota Corolla sedan was trying to avoid a cloud of dust caused by a truck it was following that was turning left onto the gravel road. In the process, the sedan crossed to the right hand lane and collided head on with an oncoming Toyota Hilux bakkie at around 03h30.

Two passengers including the driver of the Toyota Corolla died at the scene of the accident .Two passengers who were in the vehicle were seriously injured. Three passengers from the bakkie including the driver were critically injured while two others were seriously injured.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel rushed the injured survivors to Vryburg Provincial Hospital for further medical attention. North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa wishes to convey his condolences to the families of the road users who died in the accident and wish those who are in hospital a speedy recovery.

MEC Yawa appeals to motorists to exercise caution whenever they are overtaking in order to avoid unnecessary loss of lives on public roads.
