Third Limpopo serial rapist bite the dust

A 33 year old suspect who evaded the police for more than three years, met his match last week Thursday when members of the Thabazimbi Family Violence and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit tracked him down to his residence in Secunda and arrested him.

Boas Jacob Kgatlhane allegedly preyed on teenage girls aged between 14 and 17 when they were walking alone. He would overpower, drag them into the bushes and rape them. This has been happening since 2009 and not only in the Thabazimbi and Mecklenburg areas of Limpopo, but also at Letlabile in the Brits area of Northwest. Thus far, Kgatlhane has been linked to thirteen cases of rape, three at Thabazimbi, two at Lethabong and seven at Letlabile in the North West and one at Mecklenburg.

He has already appeared in the Thabazimbi Magistrates’ Court on 23 August 2013 and is remanded in custody until his next appearance on 12 September 2013 for a formal bail application.

The latest arrest brings three the number of serial rapists that have been arrested in Limpopo in August alone.

Three weeks ago police managed to put the brakes on a serial rapist who terrorised the community of Mahwelereng for 10 years. Johannes Malesela Ledwaba (42) was linked through DNA to 12 rapes and three murders which allegedly took place between 2002 and 2012. Ledwaba will appear again on the 27 September 2013.

Whilst, 30 year old Norman Freeman Muleya from Musina was arrested last week for at least seven rapes which he allegedly committed in the Burgersfort area between 2011 and 2013. He was also linked through DNA and is expected to go on trial on  11 October 2013 at the Lydenburg High Court.
